ChromeOS Flex Installation Guide

Users must first secure a Google ChromeOS Flex Installer Drive from IT.
Setting the BIOS (Dell)
- This part of the process is performed on the Dell All-in-One computer on which you want to install ChromeOS Flex. It will configure the computer to be able to read and start from the installation USB drive that you created in the previous step. BIOS screens may vary depending on the computer model.
- Turn on the computer.
- Soon as you see any text or logo appear on the screen, start tapping the F2 until the computer boots into the BIOS setting menu.
- Click the System Configuration or Storage tab, under SATA Operation select AHCI.
- Under Secure Boot and select Secure Boot Enable.
- To save the settings, on the bottom of the screen, click apply changes.
- On the bottom of the screen, click Exit.
- To save the changes, click Yes. The computer will then reboot.
Setting the BIOS (Dell Optiplex 3000TC Devices)
This part of the process is performed on the new Dell Optiplex 3000TC computer. It will configure the computer to be able to read and start from the installation USB drive that you created in the previous step. For Dell Optiplex 3000TC devices, you will need to unlock the BIOS.
- Turn on the computer.
- Soon as you see any text or logo appear on the screen, start tapping the F2 until the computer boots into the BIOS setting menu.
- Click on the Admin Password button.
- Type in the BIOS Password. Note: the password is case-sensitive.
- To boot to USB, click the Integrated Devices tab. Then under the USB Configuration section, click the Enable USB Boot Support checkbox.
- To turn off Secure Boot, click the Boot Configuration tab.
- Under the Secure Boot section, click the Enable Secure Boot toggle set to off.
- Click yes.
- Click the Enable Microsoft UEFI CA toggle set to off.
- Click yes.
- Click Storage, under SATA/NVMe Operation click AHCI/NVMe.
- Click Yes.
- Click the Apply Changes button.
- Click OK.
- Click Exit.
Note: The computer will then reboot. After the reboot, Dell Security Manager will present a 4-digit code. The 4-digit code will be different each time. Type the 4-digit number in the text field and click the accept button.
Installing ChromeOS Flex (All Device Types)
- Insert the installation USB drive into the computer where ChromeOS Flex will be installed.
- Turn on the computer.
- To open the one-time boot setup menu, as soon as you see any text or logo appear on the computer screen, press the F12 key until the One-Time Boot Setting menu appears. Note: If the computer has already rebooted and is showing some kind of login screen, turn it off and back on again and repeat step 3.
- To start the computer from the USB drive, click or select the correct USB flash drive option. Note: For Dell Optiplex 3000TC devices, enter the BIOS password and then click ok.
- On the Welcome to ChromeOS Flex screen, click the Get started button.
- On the Start using ChromeOS Flex screen, select the option to Install ChromeOS Flex and then click next.
- Carefully review the on-screen warning about erasing data, and then click the Install ChromeOS Flex button.
- To confirm the installation, click the Install button. Note: When the installation is complete, a message appears on the screen and the computer turns off automatically.
- Remove the installation USB drive.
